Doctor Lacquer - Idioms Come But Once A Year

Hi there lacquer fans!

I'm back with a review of some gorgeous jelly based glitter lacquers for you today from a favorite of mine, Doctor Lacquer! Angelyn sent these to me as a surprise before Christmas, but I was so swamped with orders from my Etsy shop that I never got a chance to put up a review. I talked to Angelyn a little after Christmas and she told me they are re-releasing some of the more popular shades from this collection around Mid-January, so be on the lookout for that restock!

I have six shades for you today, three jelly based glitters and three thermal lacquers. First up is the polish I was most looking forward to from this collection, here is Ugly Sweater Tears.

Ugly Sweater Tears is a gray to black thermal jelly polish with many shapes and sizes of glitter including snowmen, spades, bells, mickeys and snowflakes!

I had some trouble getting this one to turn black, I guess my hands were really warm the night I swatched this one! But, you can see below the tips are starting to turn darker, which is the cold version of this thermal polish.

I used two coats of Ugly Sweater Tears over OPI Moon Over Mumbai for this manicure. The whole thing is topped with Seche Vite Top Coat to smooth it out and add some shine.

I love all the glitters in this one and it definitely makes me think of the ugly Christmas sweaters that it is named after!

Next up is another thermal polish called Mistletoe The Line.

Mistletoe The Line is a clearish to green thermal polish with multicolored micro and small glitters throughout.

I layered two coats of Mistletoe The Line over Jolie Polish White Crelly for this look. A coat of Seche Vite finishes off the look.

Below you can see the different temp changes of the thermal from warm to cold.

I absolutely love this one and I'm sure it has to be one of the popular lacquers from this collection!

Last up for the thermal lacquers is Close To Your Chestnuts.

Close To Your Chestnuts is a golden to dark brown thermal with black and holographic glitters including huge silver holo circles.

I was not expecting to love this polish but I love it so much. It is perfect on my skintone and I love how golden it looks!

Below you can see the color change from warm to cold.

I used three coats of Close To Your Chestnuts alone with a generous coat of Seche Vite Top Coat to even out the glitters.

I really love the colors in this polish and I hope you all do too!

Up next is a gorgeous jelly, Purplemint For Your Thoughts.

Purplemint For Your Thoughts is a deep purple jelly with green and teal glitters throughout. I loooove the huge teal glitters in this lacquer!

I layered two coats of this polish over Illamasqua Poke for this look. I used Seche Vite Top Coat to even it all out and make it shine.

This is easily my favorite lacquer from this collection. My favorite color combo is teal and purple so I was immediately drawn to it and it is just so deep and striking on the nail!

If you like purple, this one is a must have!

Next up for the jellies is Poinsettia No Return.

Poinsettia No Return is a bright pinkish red jelly polish with micro glitter and large snowflake glitters.

I layered two coats of this lacquer over a pink China Glaze (whose name excapes me at the moment >.<) I topped the whole thing with a generous coat of Seche Vite Top Coat.

I loved this color with my skintone and the snowflakes are so cute!

Last up for this beautiful collection is one of my favorites from it, this is Silent As The Night.

Silent As The Night is a deep blue jelly with white snowflakes, huge purple circles and other glitters.

I layered two coats of this over Cult Nails Wack Slacks and topped it with Seche Vite Top Coat.

I LOVE this combo and will definitely be wearing this again over the winter months! There is nothing I didn't like about this lacquer and the color is just yummy!

What do you think of this collectionm? Are there any you're hoping will come back for the mod-January restock?

My picks for must-haves from this collection are Purplemint For Your Thoughts, Silent As The Night and Close To Your Chestnuts. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the Doctor Lacquer restock around Mid-January at doctorlacquer.com and on their Facebook and Instagram for updates and info on new collections and restocks!

xoxo
